About the Author

Todd Caudle has been photographing Colorado's landscape for more than 30 years. His work has appeared in a host of regional and national publications, including View Camera, Backpacker, 5280, Shutterbug and Rolling Stone magazines, and Sierra Club calendars, as well as on the covers of the Colorado Official State Vacation Guide and the Colorado Springs Visitors' Guide. His book, 14,000 Feet - A Celebration of Colorado's Highest Mountains, won the Colorado Book Award in 2006. The 2019 Fourteeners calendar has some impressive photographs. This year, the fourteeners pictured are: Mount of the Holy Cross, La Plata Peak, Uncompahgre Peak, Mount Lincoln, Longs Peak, Mount Bierstadt, Capitol Peak, Mount Belford, Wetterhorn Peak, Mount Wilson, Mount Princeton, Castle Peak, Redcloud Peak, and Mount Lindsey. Of these, I have done all but two. November has Redcloud viewed from Sunshine. I and a friend did the traverse from Sunshine to Redcloud in a snowstorm with electricity. (see photo) The storm was not in the plan. Scary!This calendar provides a standard presentation of each month divided into a grid of five weeks. There is also a page for November/December 2018. Each page is placed below a mountain photograph page. The pages are fourteen by eleven inches. Each day in the calendar grid has its own 1-7/8 by 1-7/8 inch box, leaving sufficient space for notes. Astronomical events and holidays are indicated.I recommend this calendar for anyone who is a fourteener fanatic or who likes mountain photographs. If Amazon is sold out, then you can get one from the publisher, Skyline Press.The calendar has a list of the Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) 54 fourteeners. The elevations of the peaks are those recently remeasured by the Colorado Geological Society (CGS). The highest, Mount Elbert has gained 7 feet to 14,440. The lowest, Sunshine Peak has gained 6 feet to have a new height of 14,007 feet. Will the CGS remeasure the high thirteeners to see if any are really fourteeners? I have read that Sunlight Spire, formerly 13,995, is now an even 14,000.Also interesting is the CGS list of 58 fourteeners. There are four more than on the CMC list: Eolus North, Cameron, Challenger, and Conundrum. I have done two of these, Cameron and Challenger, bringing my total to 43. The calendar shows Cameron along with Lincoln on the March page. They get equal billing. Is this in anticipation of a general recognition of Cameron as a fourteener? On the other hand, October has Conundrum lurking right behind Castle, with no mention of Conundrum. I have been thinking about Conundrum for a while. It certainly looks like a legitimate fourteener to me.

I get this calendar every year. Each year the pictures are new and well-chosen. Highly recommended for those who love the mountains.
