Melodramatic and trite. The story continues far beyond the point of available facts. The entire book takes up 40% of the pages the rest is descriptions of other books, which can be read on any site selling them.
Heart wrenching is all I can say. I read it in one sitting, as I could not put it down. This author shared what can happen to a child who is unloved and unwanted. Although this child committed horrific acts, this was ultimately the outcome of her mother's actions. How I would love to go back to that time and provide her a loving, nurturing environment. I am sure the outcome would have been different. I am sure the many psychopathic monsters in our society had similar upbringings. I don't believe it happens by accident. After reading this book, I implore parents to love and cherish your children, and protect them from harm. You will do the world a favor and your children will be well balanced, functional, and healthy as they grow. This book will be one of those that stays with you long after you finish reading it.
It is unbelievable how the lack of love and proper upbringing can turn an 11 year old child into a murderer. Mary was physically and mentally abused as a child and ended up (with a friend) in killing two small boys.A very scary tale of neglect and abuse. Her Mother should have gone to prison, instead she, the mother, continued on her path of drug and alcohol abuse.The ending is a surprise and you will have to read the book for that shock.
The information in the book is good but it does not go far enough, in my opinion there should have been more detail regarding her struggle with her home life, her mother, what it was like for her at home, etc. I was also disappointed that only about 40% of the book was about Mary Bell. and the rest of the book was about other killers with very little detail about them. I was expecting a book about Mary Bell in detail and I do not feel this book lived up to that.
You can feel for Mary Bell as the people that should protect her instead continually abused and degraded her till she didn't understand about compassion or had any normal feelings. The abuses she was made to endure left her with no mental way to understand the basic nature of how to be normal because nothing in her life was ever normal. She was basically in survival mode all her life and although most people wouldn't think of doing the things that she did, it never occurred to her that what she was doing was wrong. Especially since she had passed pain by becoming numb everything. Great book to read if you want to delve into the mind and history of a child killer.
It felt like this book was written in a hurry. The story itself is compelling but I felt like this was a Reader's Digest version.
This story makes my heartbreak. I work with children with special needs in the age range of Mary. I see a lot of abuse and how it affects them. How sad that no one helped Mary. Maybe she wouldn't have killed those sweet innocent boys if someone has shown her love. While my heart breaks for the little boys and their families I am surprised that she was able to get out of prison and become a member of society. Great book.
Mary F. Bell seems to have an interesting story. This ebook gives a hard-core news like account. It made me want to know more about her background, the abuse that led to her demise. It also made me want to know more about her life after her release. Someone should write a book about MFB.
