My brief background - civilian, never knew much about the military, and decided it was something I wanted to pursue. Next thing I knew, I was signed up to take this exam, and needed to review for it. Searching online, I found very few study resources (a few books, some informative websites), and for the books that I found, there were not many reviews.I went ahead and purchased this book to serve as a framework for my studying, and I was not let down. The book does a great job at explaining to you what you need to review - topics, subject matter, concepts, examples. Included in the back is a very solid practice exam that you should be comfortable completing upon finishing your studies.I will say this - while the book does a great job at outlining ASTB concepts and subject matter, you will need to pair this book with practice math/reading/mechanics problems (I used flashcards on proprofs - google "astb proprofs") to best prepare. This book does a great job at giving you the knowledge base you need, and with continued practice, you will be in great shape for the exam.In short - a great guideline for the exam, a great resource to frame your studies around. Very informative, I would have been lost without it.

Awful, but not the most awful one out there. Practice tests are useless and hardly even similar to the actual astb. However, unlike 2 other ones Ive tried, at least contains some useful info. Dont use as your only study material. And certainly not anywhere near worth the 35 bucks I paid.

Studies this for about a month and took some online tests and passed with a 5-8-6. The material inside is relevant to what's on the test

I bought this book to help me study for my second attempt at the ASTB. The book was fairly thorough and covered a decently wide range of information. The mechanical section was probably the best. But, the nautical and aeronautics information section seemed like it emphasized the wrong information. Also the spatial aperception was formatted differently than the actual test is. Also, there are several mistakes in the answer keys that are incorrect. Overall not a bad book I suppose, but if you want to do well on the actual ASTB I would suggest looking for a book that more closely mirrors the actual test.

After using this book, I was totally prepared for the test. Granted, I have always been a bit of a math nerd. However, the aviation, nautical, and mechanical example questions proved invaluable when I took the test. On my first sitting I got a 64, 7/7/6. I was told I won't need to take it again.

This study guide is decent for basic knowledge of math and mechanical physics (mechanical comprehension), but it doesn't delve into the higher requirements that are on the OAR - I took the post 11/2013 test, where they've changed the test immensely from what has been explained to me, and this is a more simplified version of that. It helped w/the English portion pretty well, even though the book was actually more in-depth than the questions on the test (longer paragraphs), but the math was quite low for even the starting question and the mechanical portion was lacking.I would recommend using this, along w/SAT prep material for harder math equations to help you on the first portion of the three part test. I recognized quite a bit of the math that was on there from high school, but I haven't been in those kinds of classes in over a decade, so it didn't help much. Try to look for more complicated equations w/answers and explanations, if you're rusty on your more in-depth math and look and look for some more questions about how electricity works and leverage equations that I had in my first study guide.

This book was great to help prepare for the ASTB-E. It help dig up all of the math knowledge that I learned during high school. It will not teach you the skills but if you need a little refresher this book is perfect.
