I was hoping for more information on camping and things to see along 395 via my motorhome.... this is a great buy if u are a biker biker or climber

Such an extensive area, so little time and so fewer pages. Although this book claims to be the "beta" version of Highway 395, this also may be its downfall. Granted, the author does what he set to do, but the problem is covering such a vast region in a fresh way. Dozens of books have been written about the Eastern Sierra. Perhaps this is the problem. Although this might be minor, I had some trouble ignoring some of the author's grammar issues, but otherwise an okay book. Maybe I am being too hard on this piece, but as a "veteran" of the Eastern Sierra, this one was kind of a snooze. One can only read about the same areas over and over for so long.

This book really opens up the possibilities for adventure. I've driven the 395 straight to Mammoth a million times without stopping and realizing all the treasures that lay along this freeway. Truly an amazing guidebook.The only items I would add, would be winter activities. No mention of places to snowshoe, backcountry ski etc.

This is a great book! It covers just about everything one (hikers, rock climbers bikers, backpackers, geologists, campers, historians, etc) would want to know and more. Great job!

This book does what is claims to do... provide high level travel/activity details over an extensive area. It provides the "beta" for a wide range of activities, from fishing and hiking to rock climbing and biking and more, and fills in details relating to history, geology, etc and a lot of camping and eating recommendations that you cannot find in other resources. If you are looking for a single guide for young-at-heart road tripping eastern California, this is it! It beats buying and carrying several books for the same road trip, hopefully there will be more volumes for different road trips (ie, Hwy 50 through Nevada comes to mind).
